Testimonials

"I recently went to the Shanklin Hotel for a Masonic Lodge Ladies Weekend. From start to finish the whole experience was totally enjoyable. The hotel was really clean and tidy and the rooms were spotless. Lovely crisp white bedlinen and bath towels, tea and coffee making facilities and plenty of wardrobe space.

The staff are amazing and will go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were really helpful and so polite.

The food was fantastic. A really good choice on the Friday night which was all cooked to perfection and, although we had a set meal on the Saturday night, the food was again perfect. I didn't try the leisure facilities but the beach walk from Shanklin into Sandown was lovely in the sunshine. It was a perfect weekend and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends and family".

"Have just returned from a special 1960's weekend at the Shanklin Hotel in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. Regularly visit the Island but have never stayed here before, I think one can often be cautious of large hotels especially if they regularly take coaches. However not here, I can not fault this stay, everything was first class, and incredible value for money when you consider the quality of the accommodation (we had a very large twin bedded room), the great choice/amount of breakfast buffet and the excellent evening meal. And to top it all the special guest entertainment, "Elvis" and the Upbeat Beatles on 2 of the three night stay was top class. Even small things like biscuits every day in the room was a nice surprise touch (so often you get them the first day and then that's it!). The excellent package also included the ferry tickets. Would not hesitate to stay here again."

"This hotel is well worth a visit - we arrived in winter not expecting much but the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We could not fault it at all. The food was excellent and if you ordered a sandwich in the bar for lunch you got one and a half sandwiches! More than enough to eat. The rooms, all sea-facing were clean and quite large. The bathrooms all had baths as well as showers and the water was hot! We had gone down to recover from a family bereavement and the stay certainly helped us as a family to have a break! Thanks to all at the hotel - We will be back!"

"First time of going away for Christmas and we had a great time. Staff very helpful and friendly. Food out of this world. So much of it and so well presented making you want to eat it all. Gifts and entertainment great. Thanks we will surely come again."

"We stayed here on a 3 night Jazz weekend with a group of friends; 19 of us in total.  Our standard twin room was large with comfortable beds and plenty of storage space. There was the usual hospitality tray with items replenished daily, something which does not always happen in other establishments. I agree that the room decor was dated in character but as we only slept there this did not worry me. The bathroom was small with a bath with a shower over it. The towels were changed regularly and the room was clean. Overall the staff were attentive and helpful and had allocated tables in the restaurant so that our group could all sit together. The hotel was full to capacity and as a result the serving staff were at full stretch. The menu choices were within the typical English hotel fare with standard roasts, fish, risottos and curries. Vegetables were plentiful and not overcooked. Drinks were not overpriced and there was a reasonable choice of wines. I felt the weekend to be excellent value for money and I would certainly consider returning to hotel in future."

"Overall we enjoyed our 3 night half board break which included the car ferry crossing. The reception staff offered assistance with our luggage on arrival. Food was of a good standard and considering the amount of guests catered for, the staff were very efficient and polite. We made full use of the in-house swimming pool and sauna (well maintained)."

"Good points - good location, easy to find. Close to beach lift, town, train station, etc. Friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Excellent food. Crisp bed linen and fluffy towels. Comfortable (and fairly new) furniture in the public areas.
This is not an expensive hotel by any means and I felt we received good value for money. The price also included the ferry trip which at the time we travelling was £110. We are considering staying there again next year!"

"We stayed at the Shanklin Hotel for 3 nights during June 2010. We had booked a special deal for bed and breakfast with free dinner. The ferry fare was also included for the total price of £384 which we thought was good value for a 3 star hotel. When we arrived the car park was quite full but you can also park on the street next to the hotel if you need to. The reception area is nice with comfy chairs and a really good piece of artwork made with nails. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we were asked if we needed help with our bags.

The bedroom was very clean and presented nicely. The room did get very warm in the night and we had to open the windows wide and leave the curtains open (there were blinds though) but we did manage to sleep fairly well until the seagulls woke us up.

The food was really good. Breakfast offered continental (including porridge), followed by full English Cooked or a choice of eggs or kippers and then toast. The dinner was a good standard with nice starters (choice of 3), a choice of mains including veggie and gluten free options and a nice selection of desserts which were quite traditional e.g trifle and cheesecake.

The sea front wasn't too far and there is a public lift to take you down from the cliff. We'd recommend walking into old Shanklin village and taking a look at the Chine (a gorge) which is lit up with coloured lights in the evening. It was quite spectacular. Other attractions we enjoyed were the Owl and Falconry Centre, the Needles and the Zoo in Sandown. Make sure you visit the Old Thatch Tea Shop in Shanklin and have a cream tea in the garden. It was lovely."

"There was a large group of us on a walking break. I had such a fab time (the good weather had much to do with it). My main praise was for the hardworking and polite catering staff. The food was superb. No complaints."

"This hotel was really lovely,I went with my partner and we weren't expecting anything flash but what it was a really clean and friendly hotel that tried their best to please. The food was really nice my partner did moan he didnt get enough but he is 6 foot 2 and could consume his own weight in food at 1 sitting. All in all a really clean and friendly hotel and a very pleasent holiday with very comfy beds and soft towels."

"This hotel is clean, comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful (even though the serving staff work flat out, nothing was too much). I stayed here with my partner (both of us are in our mid 30's) and my parents (both mid 60's) as part of a coach trip for Mothering Sunday. On arrival the staff knew what they were doing and within a short space of time we'd all been helped with our luggage and shown our rooms. The rooms were a good size and comfortable. Our particular room was in an extension to the front side of the main hotel and was smaller than the room my parents had but still of ample size. Due to the high location of the hotel most of the rooms seemed to have a pleasant view with a lot over looking the sea. The swimming pool was well maintained and clean. The location meant for easy access into the village for shopping and the path leading down to the beach and sea front was just over the road.I would not hesitate in recommending this as a suitable place to stay."

"Our room was spacious and the bathroom was clean and airy with clean towels provided daily if required. The food throughout the new year break could not have been better - well presented and plenty of choice. We all applauded the chef before we left no complaints at all. The entertainment throughout the break was also very good especially as we all love the 60s music. The staff were excellent too and always helpful and attentive - all the staff always had a smile on their faces not one single unhappy member - very rarely seen nowadays. Our luggage was taken to and from our room with no problems at all. We travelled on a coach tour to the hotel with about 30 people on the tour with 6 in our party and we all had a great time and would certainly recommend this hotel."
